Purdue researchers win IEEE award for highway charging technology

Purdue University researchers have received the Technology Innovation Award at the 2025 IEEE PES Energy and Policy Forum Innovation Showcase for their work on Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer (DWPT). The technology allows electric vehicles to receive power directly from the roadway while in motion, potentially transforming how we approach charging electric vehicles (EVs).

Purdue researchers achieve breakthrough in quantum sensing with 2D material

A team of researchers at Purdue University has made a major breakthrough that could lead to incredibly small and precise sensors – ones that can detect and control individual atoms. Led by Tongcang Li, professor in Purdue ECE and PHYS, the team used special defects in super-thin material called hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) to detect and control the spin of a single atomic nucleus.

Purdue ECE PhD students receive prestigious SPIE scholarships for pioneering photonics research

Two PhD candidates from Purdue ECE have been awarded prestigious scholarships from SPIE, the International Society for Optics and Photonics, for their potential contributions to the field. Peigang Chen received the 2025 John Kiel Scholarship, which recognizes students for their promise in optics, photonics, or a related discipline, while Yuheng Chen received the 2025 Optical Design and Engineering Scholarship.
